DonationsThere are many ways to support the Land Trust. You can simply make a monetary donation via PayPal. (button on the right) Or, you could become a member, you may be able to donate land, or you might wish to volunteer your time.
Membership Become a supporting member of the Winchester Land Trust. Go to the “Membership” page to sign up. Gifts in the form of money are always welcome. A substantial fund is needed to provide operating expenses that cover land maintenance, management, and costs arising from land acquisition (even when land is deeded to the Trust). A reserve fund is also necessary to acquire property by purchase if it is determined that such an acquisition best serves the interests of the community and the goals of the Land Trust. |

Donate Land
There are several mechanisms for preserving land; a few of these are described below. It is the Land Trust’s responsibility to assess each situation and recommend the best mode of acquisition.
Volunteer your time
There are many events each year where volunteers are needed. We hike our properties, check the boundaries and pick up any trash that has accumulated. The WLT organizes educational events each year and we also put together fundraisers like our “Auction and Party” of 2008 at the Whiting Mill in Winsted. Please contact us if you would like to help!
We invite you to join the Trust, to become acquainted with its objectives, to help in its administration, to share in its achievements.

- An “outright gift” is the simplest transfer. The donor surrenders title to the land, yet can specify certain restrictions upon its future use.
- A “delayed gift” of property to the Land Trust can allow provisions for life tenancy by the donor as well as other benefits.
- A “conservation easement” preserves the character of the land without transferring ownership. Under an easement, the landowner gains a tax benefit by relinquishing the development rights to some or all of the land and need not grant public access to the land.
